Local households are being invited to attend free practical workshops in Enniskillen this October, offering advice on how to keep homes warm, reduce energy costs and make the most of household heating.
The workshops, facilitated by National Energy Action (NEA), will take place at Fermanagh House, Enniskillen, on Wednesday 7 October from 3pm to 5.30pm and Thursday 8 October from 10am to 12.30pm.
With colder weather approaching and household budgets under continued pressure, the sessions are designed to give people practical information they can use at home this winter.
The informal, discussion-led workshops will look at a range of topics including understanding and taking control of heating systems, simple low-cost and no-cost ways to improve energy efficiency, reducing heat loss, and tackling condensation and damp. Participants will also receive advice on comparing and switching energy suppliers, as well as information about available support.
There will be an opportunity for attendees to raise their own questions and concerns about energy bills and keeping their homes warm, with the sessions including a presentation and Q&A over tea, coffee and light refreshments.
Annette Leonard, Community Climate Action Coordinator with Fermanagh Trust, said: “These workshops are about giving people practical information that can make a real difference at home. We all want to keep our homes warm and comfortable while making our money go as far as possible, particularly as we head into the winter months.
“You don’t need to be an expert in energy or be particularly interested in environmental issues to benefit from these sessions. Whether you want to understand your heating system better, find ways to reduce heat loss, tackle condensation or simply find out if there is support available to help with your bills, there will be something useful for you.
“We would encourage people to come along, bring their questions and take advantage of the opportunity to get practical advice from National Energy Action.”
The workshops are being delivered as part of Empowering Communities for Climate Change, an initiative developed by Fermanagh Trust and Cavan County Local Development, with support from the International Fund for Ireland. The workshops are free and open to everyone, but places are limited. Both sessions cover the same topics, so participants only need to attend one. Those interested are asked to register in advance for whichever session they would like to attend, on a first-come, first-served basis.
